Islamic schools

For many Indonesian families, choosing a school is about more than academics. Full-time Islamic schools combine a Texas curriculum with daily Qur'an, Arabic, and Islamic studies, in a place where the kids can practice their faith with confidence. Two well-known schools in Austin:

Austin Peace Academy

Open since 1997, next to ICGA. A rigorous academic program in a faith-based environment, focused on the whole development of the child.

Islamic Study Club for Kids

A parent-led homeschool circle for children about 5 to 8 years old (kindergarten to 2nd grade). Three online sessions a week on Google Meet, about one hour each, using a curriculum adapted from TKQ A and B in Indonesia. The online sessions are the core lesson; most of the learning happens at home with the parent. Parents who join commit to that partnership.

Led by Tri Hashimi. To join, email trihashimi@gmail.com or WhatsApp (512) 987-3081.

When a loved one passes away

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. This is the hardest moment for a family, and far from home it is even harder. Here is what to do in Austin, step by step. Call a friend from the community too; nobody should do this alone.

1 · Right away

Who to call

If the death is unexpected or unattended, call 911 first; the Medical Examiner may need to release the body. Then call the ICGA Funeral & Cemetery line at (512) 666-3389 during business hours.

ICGA Muslim Cemetery →
2 · Paperwork

Burial plot and forms

The family completes the ICGA Burial Intake Form (death certificate details, next of kin, ID). ICGA assigns a plot at the Austin Muslim Cemetery, 1920 County Line Rd, Dale, TX 78616. Burial cannot start before the legal paperwork is approved.

3 · Janazah

Ghusl, kafan, prayer, burial

Once the plot is assigned, ICGA arranges the washing (ghusl), shrouding (kafan), Salat al-Janazah, and burial at the Austin Muslim Cemetery.

4 · Afterwards

Certificates and support

File the death certificate with the City of Austin Office of Vital Records and order several certified copies for legal and financial matters. IMATX volunteers can help with meals, logistics, and fundraising for the family.
