Our vision
To build a resilient Indonesian Muslim diaspora in Greater Austin: steadfast in faith, strong in knowledge, helping each other, holding to an inclusive Islam that honors diversity, and contributing to society with civic and moral responsibility.
Everything we do comes back to three values: Faith, Knowledge, and Community.
Our mission
Six things we work on, step by step:
Deepen religious understanding
Regular pengajian and halaqa, so we keep learning our deen together.
Excel in knowledge
Encourage learning in every field, for our kids and for ourselves.
Strengthen families
Support families living far from home, including mualaf and mixed-marriage families.
Open spaces for dialogue
Friendly, inclusive conversation with neighbors of every faith.
Empower the community
Help each other with gotong royong, in good times and hard times.
Connect diaspora networks
Work with masjids, Indonesian groups and the Consulate-General in Houston.
Five pillars
Purpose
A strong inner foundation and a clear sense of meaning.
Knowledge
Always learning: Qur'an, hadith, and the knowledge we need for life here.
Contribution
Real engagement with society, in Austin and back home.
Tolerance
An open approach that is a mercy to all creation, Rahmatan lil 'Alamin.
Unity
Holding to Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, unity in diversity.
Where we come from
Indonesia is the largest Muslim-majority country in the world, with more than 240 million Muslims across 17,000 islands. Islamic life in Indonesia is diverse, active in education and social work, and used to living side by side with other faiths. We bring that heritage with us to Texas.
Over the years, many Indonesians came to the US to study, work, and raise families. In Greater Austin our community keeps growing, spread across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Georgetown, and beyond. The challenge is the same for all of us: keep our identity and our faith, while taking part fully in life here. IMATX exists to help with that.
Showing up for the community
We want the voice of Indonesian Muslims to be present in Austin: at interfaith gatherings, at masjid events, and at civic occasions. Even a short prayer, a reflection, or a plate of Indonesian food shared with neighbors says that we are here, we are active, and we want to contribute. We look for these opportunities, we offer help, and we work with partners with courtesy and clarity.

Our status
Alhamdulillah, IMATX is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity. The IRS confirmed our status in a determination letter dated 9 March 2026. Our exemption is effective from 24 December 2025, the day we were incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in the State of Texas.

Donations to IMATX are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please keep your Zelle or PayPal receipt for your records. If your employer matches gifts (for example through Benevity), use our EIN above. For a copy of our IRS letter, email imatx.sec@gmail.com.
Why did we do this? Our community now serves roughly 450 families and 1,500 Indonesians in the Greater Austin area. Depending only on ad-hoc donations is not enough to keep programs running. A formal nonprofit gives us access to corporate matching gifts and grants, protects the volunteers who serve, and gives the organization a life beyond any one leadership team. How we are organized
We keep three roles separate, so everyone knows who decides, who does the work, and who gives advice.
Board of Directors
The legal stewards. They look after compliance, money and the mission, not daily activities. The board can make timely decisions without needing everyone to agree on every detail.
Officers
The people who get things done. They carry out the board's direction and run our programs week to week.
Advisory Council
Experts and community representatives. The council is the formal channel for community input. They give guidance but do not vote and carry no legal liability.
Members. IMATX is a member-led organization. Leadership is elected by the community every two years; the most recent election was held at our Eid al-Adha 1446 gathering on 8 June 2025, for the 2025–2027 term.
Looking forward
What we hope to build, insya Allah
Halaqa, charity and dialogue are what we do now. We want these to keep going long after the current team. Beyond that, we dream of:
- A cultural center, a place for the community to gather
- Bigger programs such as winter retreats and a muktamar (conference)
- Large social events for families across Greater Austin
Big goals need steady support. See how you can help.
